Love Our Island began on a hill where I do sprint training. Every week, I noticed litter scattered across the landscape, so I started picking it up.
At first, I thought the solution was simple. I bought a bin, coordinated with the bin men to make sure it was emptied, and tried to maintain the area properly. But, despite the effort, the litter kept coming back.
That’s when I realised the problem wasn’t infrastructure, it was behaviour.
After two decades working in design and advertising, I know how powerful symbols can be in shaping culture and shifting how people think and act. So I created one.
I started a campaign, documented the process, and shared it with the world: a free symbol that businesses, organisations, schools, artists, events, and communities can use to encourage pride, responsibility, and care for Cyprus.
That symbol became Love Our Island.
